- Getting Reviews on Amazon (Part 1 of 3)
In this series of articles I’ll show you how I got lots of genuine five-star reviews on Amazon in a short amount of time. It will also give you a few pointers along the way about various aspects of how I wrote my book, generated hundreds of testimonials and a market for the book completely by accident.
Anyway as a first port of call you can see the Amazon pages for the UK version of The Persuasion Skills Black Book here, the USA version of the book is here
I will take you through all the strategies I have used and how well they have worked to get these reviews and more besides… in fact I will give you an overview of a whole bunch of strategies I used to generate a book, a market and a fairly large and enthusiastic following.
Start with a good book
Okay this is a statement of the startlingly obvious but it is worth saying initially. You have to have a product that is worth reading. I want to add something onto this because I am assuming that if your book is on Amazon then it is worth reading. But with the best will in the world however good your book is it will only be good for readers that are interested in the subject.
The reason I am making this point is that for you to get good reviews you need to target people that want to receive what you have to give. This point is essential for sales as it is for good reviews. I’ll come back to this point later and how this has worked for me exceptionally well and also how I have fallen foul by not taking my own advice.
Writing a book that people will want to give a good review
My book, The Persuasion Skills Black Book was an accident. I had an NLP website and I wanted subscribers so I could market courses to them. My idea was to give away a free ten week eCourse in exchange for people’s email addresses. If you don’t know what NLP is feel free to peruse my website about NLP Training to find out more, but it is not necessary to know anything about NLP to get value from these posts.
I looked at the NLP market and compared various openings in it with my core NLP Skills and interests and found myself with a niche within a niche. One aspect of NLP that I didn’t consider very well covered is Hypnotic Language Patterns for Persuasion. I could also see from my research that it is a much sought after market and even better it is a passion and key skill area for me.
This was the birth of the book. The core of my book was originally a ten week free NLP Persuasion Skills eCourse. Being a trainer by trade it was easy for me to plot and outline a ten week course. I wrote the first two lessons, put them into the email autoresponder and wrote some blurb on the website to attract people. I was up and running in less than a week. In later posts I will take you through in detail how you can plot out a ten week or longer course in less than an hour. Why ten weeks? I think that ought to be the subject of a separate blog post.
Key Points
For me the important things I had stumbled on were to identify a market, find a need that I could fill for that market and then get started on feeding that market for the simple cost of an email address.
In my next post I will show you how I accidently cultivated an almost revolutionary following, massive testimonials and social proof for a book I hadn’t even conceived let alone written.
Incidentally if you are still wondering about where those reviews on Amazon came from I am getting there but I suspect you can figure some of it out already.
